Tips and Techniques

I watch MANY great TV Cooking Shows. Not many of the known ones like Rachel Ray and Bobby Flay. Simply Ming, Rick Bayless, and BBQ-U just to name a few. Here are some tips and techniques I've learned from watching these (FREE) shows that I feel might help you enjoy cooking a little bit more!

*I will be adding to this page as I think of things! *

Cutting a Bell Pepper, the easy way:

Lay pepper on its side on a cutting board. Take your knife and make a cut along one side, but not clear through.
As you cut, roll out the pepper, pushing it flat. Then you can either dice it up, chunk it, or slice it. It's that simple.

Cleaning as you Cook:
Please, be kind and clean-up as you cook. It makes life SO much easier when you're stuffed from eating that delicious meal and don't want to do anything else!

Peeling Ginger:
Cut the desired size and using a SPOON (that's right, a spoon), scrap off the skin and any bruises into the sink. Super simple and mmmm the smell is. To. Die. For.

Cutting an Avocado:

Take the just-ripened (skin has blackened and is just starting to become squishy) avocado in your hand. Take a sharp knife and make a cut all the way around the center (lengthwise). Twist the two halves and pull. Take the half with the pit in the palm of your hand. Gently tap the pit with your knife, with just enough force as to pierce it, but not cut completely through it (being very careful as I have cut myself doing this before). Twist your knife and pop out the pit! It's so much fun!
To dice it up, hold it in your palm and cut vertical and horizontal lines (not completely thru) then spoon out dices.
